This drill is a beast. DEWALT products have never let me down, and so far this drill is no exception. First of all, it’s an amazing deal. At nearly $90 for one replacement battery, even just the two 1.5mah batteries that this unit comes with should be more expensive than the whole kit. Instead for just over $100 you get two batteries, a fast charger, a soft case and the of course the drill. Frankly if I had other DEWALT 20V tools, I’d buy this kit just for the batteries.

Amazing value for price paid. Even my high expectations were exceeded.

UPDATE: Still using this drill over a year later. Batteries still have plenty of life, even with heavy use. I will use one while the other charges. Great product, no issues whatsoever, very satisfied!

The DCD771 is a detuned version of the classic Dewalt 2-speed, 1/2″ chuck, VSR drill. Bigger, heavier, slower, less power, lower capacity batteries, slower charger, soft case, no belt or bit holder. Built to a price point of $99 on sale. Great for the once a month DIYer, not an everyday contractor tool.

This drill has been great for me! I will say, the first on I received the chuck would pull completely out of the drill very easily, but thanks to Amazon that was taken care of effortlessly.

Update: Chuck started failing almost imediately.

When I got this everything seemed great. I was building a fence and after a day or two the chuck would loosen up and I would end up loosing the bit in the grass. Now, less than 6 months since buying it, the chuck is having all kinds of issues. Often when I go to take a bit out, the chuck just makes a ratchet sound and doesn’t loosen up. Other times no matter how hard I tighten it, the bit ends up falling out after a while. Overall the drill seems strong and light, but the chuck on mine anyhow is garbage.

What a workhorse!

As a man who swears by DeWALT and has owned several battery variations of their drills, this one is quickly becoming my favorite. Extremely lightweight in comparison to the 18 volt models. The battery size is tiny but packs a huge punch.

This drill gets the job done! I have been using this for about 1 year now. I have used it from putting small indoor furniture together to working outside. You have the option to change the speed so it works well with different types of needs. I liked this so much I bought another one for my father.

This is pound for pound the best drill/driver I have ever owned. It is hard to go wrong with Dewalt tools and this is no exception. There are so many things I like about it I am going to make a pros/cons list.

You can’t go wrong with Dewalt or this drill

I also have a bosch cordless drill at another house but wanted something more reasonable in price; This is definitely a good drill. First, it comes with two batteries; I can assure you if you ever need to use the second one you will have gotten a lot done with the first. It also comes with a nice canvas bag that is large enough to hold other things (bits, etc.)

Excellent drill and a great price

I have an old Dewalt cordless drill that I’ve had for 15 years (bought at Home Depot). I was so impressed with the quality and durability that I swore to never buy a non-Dewalt drill again. Heck, about 4 years ago I dropped that drill from a ladder from the second story of my house onto a cement porch; other than the battery popping out, there was no damage. That drill is still working as good today as it did 15 years ago (and it gets at least weekly use…not to mention that I build a big deck with it, a giant fence, and countless other projects). So, when I saw the 20V drill with 2 lithium-ion batteries and a charger for $99, I decided to jump on it since I’ve always thought it’d be great to have two cordless drills (one for drilling holes while using the other one for screws). As soon as I got the new drill, I completed a shelving project in the garage and was very pleased with the performance of both drills (old and new). The 20V drill feels good and light in the hand and the new lithium-Ion battery is much smaller, but it packs a wallop. I was also impressed with how quickly the battery charged from 0 to 100 (if I’m not mistaken, it appeared to take about 45 minutes to charge brand new). I have no idea how long the batteries lasts since I believe I have barely scratched the surface of the total power in the battery. To my surprise, the drill also has a light that shines wherever you are drilling; really sweet. Like my old Dewalt drill, the key chuck is a piece of cake and these drills make any project fun. I didn’t even bother with getting the insurance since I figure this battery should last me at least 20 years.
