and I like this radio

I have both the FRX5 and the FRX5-BT (Bluetooth), and I like this radio. It is not perfect, though.
Good choice for a portable emergency radio.

I bought one of these for me & one for my brother-in-law just before we were hit by Hurricane Matthew – it got used frequently then since the power was out. the weather band & FM worked well – didn’t try AM or the phone charger function, but the option to charge a phone in an emergency, even just to make a short call for help, was a big plus for me. The flashlight was bright & did the job — but don’t expect it to be as bright as a tactical flashlight. Its small size makes it easy to store, pack, or carry. Hand cranking would not be my preferred way to charge it, but it’s a great backup method of charging.

Use it as a portable power supply, flashlight and radio. Yes, its a little big, but it is all in one. I keep it in by backpack for everyday use, and take it to college football games to listen to the play by play. NOAA radio is nice. Charges my iPhone and iPad mini acceptably while on the road. LED flashlight works well and uses little power. 1 hour of intermittent cranking charges the battery to 2/3. Battery recharges via USB in around 1 hour. I believe the solar cell is practically useless, but have not tested it thoroughly.

You need good eyes to read the buttons under the handle but they are well protected there. Others have complained about them but they need to go somewhere, especially with all the functions this radio has. Another person complained about the flimsy antenna, it’s an antenna, not a barbell. My only beef is that I ordered the model without blue tooth as I do not need this feature, I ordered the model that takes 3AAA batteries when needed. This would seem to be an upgrade but it’s useless to me, not to mention that the BT feature is a battery drainer. Otherwise the radio is built very well and reception is excellent. The speaker is surprisingly loud and regulates down to a whisper easily.
