We have had this TV for a couple of weeks. Since we don’t subscribe to cable, we mostly watch local news and occasionally local sport. We also have Amazon Prime and watch the odd free movie or rent one to watch on my computer monitor.

UPDATE: 7/10/15: I am editing my review – so much has happened with TCL Customer Support since writing my original review…I must say I have never experienced such OUTSTANDING Customer Service!!! After seeing my review, TCL asked me to contact them regarding the problem TV, stating this was definitely an uncommon issue, and they wanted to do everything possible to remedy the situation — not only just for me, but to make sure no other customers had to experience the same issue. I was asked to send the defective tv directly to TCL and not back to Amazon so TCL could troubleshoot and make every effort to resolve the problem. A shipping label was provided. They stand behind their product and wanted me to experience the TV I had purchased, so they offered to send it to me directly after a replacement had been viewed and tested at their center first. Thank you to the TCL rep: Chris L. for such prompt method of handing the situation and consideration!!

Excellent price – some quirky differences to a normal TV

I purchased this TV to be a small bedroom TV. Within 48 hours of owning it, I wanted to sell our large living room TV and replace it with a Roku TV.

Love our tv, mostly

We’ve had this tv for at least 6 months with no problems. It’s very clear and vivid, has many settings so you can make it less clear and vivid if you like, and has Roku built in which is extra awesome. The reason for only 4 stars is the sound and the captions. SOUND: For tv show watching it is fine, but for movies it can be very difficult to hear unless you really crank it up. I have yet to find a setting for what seems to be smart sound. It lowers the sound when the movie gets louder, but you don’t really want that in a movie. At least, you want the option to adjust what you hear when. CAPTIONS: You have the ability to use coaxial, hdmi, or both for your cable viewing and you can choose which one you want use to watch, but you only get captions when using the coaxial. Coaxial looks like old school 90s tv and hdmi looks like sweet HD. I know this is an issue for many new tvs, but to me it is unacceptable. Other than those 2 issues I love this tv.
